The Collision between MS Stockholm and Andrea Doria
Page 2

The Stockholm Passenger List

Curt Dawe served as Chief Purser on the Stockholm at the time of the collision with Andrea Doria, on July 25, 1956, at 2300 hrs.

Many books and newspaper articles have been written about the collision. Here, we choose to let the documents tell their own story.

Read more about MS Stockholm here.

There is an extensive recount of the accident on Henrik Ljungström's and Daniel Othfors' excellent website The Great Ocean Liners. Look up the Andrea Doria, and don't miss the appendix at the end of the page.

The documents have been donated to Sjöfartsmuseet, The Maritime Museum in Gothenburg.

"I was 8 when I sailed on the Stockholm. Woke up to the collision. My dad was in the cabin, my mom on the deck. What I remember most was those awful ships horns blaring constantly and the screams of frightened people and watching the whole rescue episode from the seat my dad had plunked me on. It's something one can never forget - every minute of it. My parents are gone now but I still have all the photos, letters and stories. We wound up staying at the Governor Clinton Hotel after returning to New York. We were anxiously waiting to board the QE2 to get back overseas but wound up taking the Bergensfjord instead."
