The managers of the SAL offices were prominent members of the Swedish American community, starting, and participating in, activities to promote Swedish culture in America.

Thorsten Hanson
Thorsten Hanson was employed by the Swedish American Line for 36 years.
He was a cruise director and manager for the SAL office in Chicago,
as well as being responsible for 600 SAL agents in 21 states.
He retired in 1959.

Charles V Johnson
Thorsten Hanson was succeeded by Charles V Johnson, who had been assistant manager for the Midwest sales district. Charles V Johnson started at the New York office in 1937, and moved to the office in Chicago in 1948. Johnson served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean war.
He was an active member of several Swedish American societies.
